My Giant Black Hen has 4 chicks 2-4 wks old. They have been free ranging for a 2 weeks now. Momma has apparently come down with a sour crop. It is ballooned and she wont eat or take care of her babies. This has been going on for the 3rd day. So off I go to buy ACV to find out it wont work! Its store bought. Is this true? Does it have to be Organic/Unpasteurized/with 'Mother'?

I need a fix, I need someone to tell me how to spare my hen's life!

She is passing milky diarrhea and her crop feels like a balloon to me. It does not feel like water or solid food. She lays outside or stands in the dog kennel corner. She does not protect her babies. She will let them roam wherever without concern. This is not her normal frisky self.

Please tell me what to get from my supply or grocery store.

Thanks Shawna

I've never dealt with this, just read about it. If I ever do, I will go buy some organic apple cider vinegar and some mineral oil. Then I would follow the advice of MissPrissy and dlhunicorn in this thread, because they know what they are talking about, I feel:

Of course, a good avian vet would be ideal, but for most people this is not an option.

You'll need to try to separate her so you can keep a good eye on her intake and output. Is that possible? I'm not sure about the chick situation.
Don't give her anything to eat for a day or two and just minimal water.
Gently massage her crop several times a day. After a day or 2 without food, give her a few small pieces of bread drenched in olive oil and a little yogurt. Then see where you're at. She needs to stop eating anything right now.
She's plugged up along the line somewhere. Sometimes when they feel squishy, there can be a small impacted plug of grass, underneath the fluid.

Yes ddawn is right any advise from dlhunicorn is worth its weight in gold. She has always been the best resource for a lot of BYCers.
Good Luck!
