Way to preserve wood around pop door?

How would you folks go about sealing the wood around the door where the chickens enter their coop? I'm thinking just paint it but not sure. It's mainly the untreated 2x4's I'm concerned about.

Use a good outdoor primer sealer than paint. Just make sure it's not wet or humid out when you do it.
