I have three 2+ week old Australorps that I purchased last weekend....today I just got 1 Wyandotte and 1 Ameracauna that are both claimed to be a week old....I put them all together in the brooder today but the Ameracauna I believe still has it's "egg beak" and it is definitely smaller than the Wyandotte that's said to be the same age?? I'm kind of freaking out at how much bigger my 2 weekers are and they are very energetic and seem to be a lot for the little ones....should I just let the little guys get used to the big guys' energy?? They were purchased from the feed store.

Wyandotte? (Silver Laced?)

Ameracauna? - not sure if you can see the tip of her beak well, but I'm pretty sure she still has her egg beak...what ages would that make her? Do one week olds still possibly have that?

Thanks so much in advance for help and advice!

I did that a few weeks ago and everything went fine. If you don't see a problem then don't worry. I wouldn't add them to adult ones any time soon (that would be my only concern). Wait until the youngest is ready before introducing them to the rest of your flock.

THANK YOU! Gosh, I was freakin out haha. Things seems a little rocky in the beginning with the tiny Ameracauna but I've been checking on them every hour or so and things have seemed to calm down. Definitely building a bigger brooder tonight because they will surely out grow the one I have very quickly.

These are actually my first chickens so no worries about haing to figure out integrating to an older flock! :)

I had 9 RIR's that were 2.5 weeks old and I added 2, 3 day old ameruacanas and it went totally fine. The RIR's actually are protective of the two. Just do frequent checks the first few days

You worry a lot at first, then when chicken math kicks in you wonder what you were ever worried about. I started out with gloves, chicken area wardrobe, over cleaning, perfect brooder temps, and worried about every peck. Now I know what is normal and don't notice if I go to the feed store with chicken poop stuck to my shoe.

It will be fine, I bet!

I think that your mostly black chick is the silver laced wyandotte and that the light chick is the ameraucana.. And it looks like the one that I think is ameraucana has a bearded face to it's look. So adorable!

Thank you thank you! You are seriously helping with my anxiety! I read all over that it was fine to mix ages within reason but then when they got in there I was like "oh my gosh the 2 weekers are HUGE!" lol

the funny part, I totally know I will do the same thing eventually! LOL! I was telling another member that I felt like I was SO prepared because I've been research and planning and learning anything I could to prepare for the day we got our first chicks and BOY OH BOY was I wrong. I was just stunned at what to do even though I *knew* it was entertaining for my hubby to say the least.

hahaha You know, it would totally be me to have them mixed up!!! Yikes! I'm waititng for my friend to confirm. She's the one that bought them for me and dropped them off but I didn't get to talk to her to see which was which, I was honestly guessing

I always end up sort of freaking out a little with new chicks. I have 6 month old chicks and I have almost 2 dozen chicks getting ready to hatch! I was kind of worried that the difference in age would really mess things up, but my month old babies are dolls and very peaceful.. I'm not too worried about it anymore!
