so I had a hen sitting on eggs, about 10 days in she abandoned the eggs and they were left approximately 14 hours before I moved them to an incubator. Yesterday I had 5 of the 7 eggs hatch. I candled the other 2 and there is something inside but they seem far behind. I did a water float test and they both floated. Is it possible for them to still be alive and just far behind? Or could they have died and still pass the float test? Is there other ways to test them? I marked the air sac with a pencil and I plan on leaving them in the incubator for a couple more days.

That only tells you how large the air cell is. I think you are supposed to look for movement in the water after it settles.

The fact they look far behind is most telling to me.

Leaving them in a couple extra days really does sound like your best bet if you aren't sure....

5/7 isn't bad! :celebrate

The best thing to look for is if something is moving inside, and it is possible for them to be behind, they may also hatch as runts, which will need special care. :fl we are always here if you need anything!
