Ways to make a kid go poop??????

Thanks, everyone. Unfortunately I use the WalMart pharmacy and I honestly don't think they would know me if I went in there every day.

And oh dear, Debi, I have a box of anise tea in the cupboard right now.

It's pretty cool, even if my kids don't like something they will take it if I say they need to.....they know I don't EVER give meds unless absolutely necessary (they have seen me more than once tell a doctor I was going to refuse antibiotics until they could prove it was a bacterial infection) so if I say take it, they do.

Oh dear, sorry you found out the hard way.

Oh goodness - I go through this with not only myself but with my son too. I have a beautiful 14 inch scar from sternum to pubic bone from a wonderful bowel obstruction 8 years ago

and we wont go there again - ever!

Miralax works better than any other type of Fiber thing out there. Problem with the fiber stuff is soluable vs. insoluable. One you have to drink a ton of water in order to get it to pass and stay bulky or you get constipated even more and the other, you wont have to worry about it at all. Miralax works without having to drink a ton of water and worry about it. You do need to drink water regularly, just not tons of it.

I give my son coffee as well when he gets constipated (which is quite often - lucky him, he has IBS-C too) but I add just a bit of chocolate Hershey's syrup to flavor it so he will drink it. It usually works within an hour and he never makes it through the entire cup. Fruit is another biggie - peaches, apples, pears, watermelon, etc. Bananas not so much as they actuall constipate more for some reason. Prunes, nope, he cant handle those either (neither can I) but plums we can both do oddly enough.

Laxatives are out as they cramp too much - although Milk Of Magnesia is okay but ewwww yuk - try getting a kid to take that! I dont even like it, so its back to Miralax daily, tasteless, ordorless and you can mix it in with juices and/or even koolaid and they'll never know

I also have to give him a dose of Gas-X or Mylecon Infant Drops (generic is fine) probably once a week (sometimes twice) as his stomach starts to hurt and it helps. He also shares my hot water bottle

- so now I have to get him one of his own, it does help.

Hope your little guy feels better sweetie, it is absolutely no fun, I know.

When my daughter was younger...probably 3 or 4 she had an issue for awhile. I found by accident, that feeding her sunflower seeds (without shell) always helped get her moving.

Miralax, my son was prescribed it when he was younger and still gets it at 8(per Dr. orders). They now sell it over the counter. It usually works in 12 hrs.

Thank you so much everyone for all the great ideas and concern. My baby (alright, fine, maybe not exactly a BABY) is going potty!!!!

I tried the sunflower seeds someone mentioned along with apple juice, fletchers laxative, a baby fleet glycerine suppository.....the child has been loaded down with this stuff, but I approved everything with the doc first. He finally started going this afternoon and has 3 times since. Will be getting checked again tomorrow to see if his bowels are getting cleared out good, but I am far less scared now!!!

Again, thank you everyone!!!!

LOL I just realized it was Katy who said sunflower seeds, on this same page!!!

That was great, because it has been the only thing he felt like eating, as well.

Whew! Glad things are moving in the right direction! Just a quick note, the abdominal massage needs to go CLOCKWISE, that is the direction of digestion. (if you think clockwise, it doesn't matter which side you're on, left or right) I taught massage for 12 years, trust me, this can help, plus you get to interact in a nice positive nurturing way with your child. (oh... how many pregnant women have I "unplugged" over the years..

) If your son likes salad, add a bit of lemon juice and olive oil as dressing, the acidity stimulates digestive juices and the oil is well... lube! Keep him on fruits (juicy ones!) and treat him to a latte or frappacino every week and hopefully he'll establish a better pattern soon. My DD will actually request cantaloupe if she's "sluggish"! We all talk "poop" here, so keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about your son that stinks

Let's see
1 to 2 teaspoons flaxseed oil daily
To lubricant the colon
Probiotic take tablespoon of plain yogurt daily
For digestion and elimination

Psylluim husk 1 teaspoon twice a day in 10 oz water

Drink tons of water

Warm bath

Aloe Vera juice quarter cup twice a day
Improves bowel movements

No white foods!

I recommend some magnesium. As a society we are very deficient in it. I have found it has made my TMJ pain almost non-existence and the bonus was I found out I have always been slightly constipated and am no longer. I take magnesium citrate 400 mg daily. There is a product called natural calm that is a magnesium citrate powder that you mix with liquid and drink. They even have a kids formula. http://www.calmnatural.com/naturalcalm
