To the OP: How about making and selling unique cards for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries.....?

Debiraymond side note: I do not blame your smart chickens!!! Even though I do like Blue Jays, but I have caught them more than once in eating my chicken eggs....

I have YET to find a broken egg in the coop. Good girls!!!!

Petting zoo day at your store park lot in the summer? Sell cotton candy and hot dogs. Bring your chickens and some friends pet livestock.

Sell farm fresh eggs unofficially to friends.

Farmer's market at your parklot again. Invite locals, don't charge, just get people to come and then stock your store with cold drinks, candy bars, etc., and have some sales running on your best sellers.

Sell local stuff online to people out of your area who think things from Alaska would be cool.

Perhaps you have thought of these ideas already.

Do you sell prepared food? I would recommend that if most of your business is tourists. Some local delicacies? I love trying local food when I travel!

Take lots of photos and sale them in diff sizes.....Or matted.. you can mat them in your time at the store...or make little photo books for sale...

Forgive me if I sound like a schmoo here....

But since you mentioned something about fur a bit ago, what about lining ear muffs, making scarves with it, lining hats with it. Ummm, make underclothes with it? LMBO!!!!

Hand made goodies like these may be common there, I don't know..but you could always promote it as home grown sort of thing, hand raised and hand made etc.

The underwear thing...it was just a joke, but it would be an interesting novelty gift to say the least.

Ok, LOTS of replies and I had to go take care of.....chickens!! LMAO!! So I'll try and answer everyone in order!

Before I start - EVERYONE has good and unique ideas here! Some just don't 'work' here and I'm picking your brain to think of something I haven't already thought of...lol

redhen, my pups aren't trained well enough to risk anyone but ME, and there's a place less than 25 miles from here that does sled rides... I DO NOT cook... hubby does - however even if he were to do something such as teaching that, we don't have the 'legal' facilities for FOOD SERVICE, and he know that because he was in the army for 18 years for it

Villages everywhere around here that people can go to without me going to that sorta expense...

terrilacy, I DO sew my crafts in the store in the winter when I have orders. Other than that, they are all over my store, hats, mittens, mocs and pillows. They don't sell as well out of the store as I can online.

crazyhuhn: Got cards and postcards in the store that I've made

savingdogs: I don't have anything but dogs, geese and chickens and I just don't trust people around my critters, sorry

If I could tame a moose....

The locals here are.... well ... duds... I can count on a hand how many of them come here. And ONE of em is here in BYC

They have never much supported the local businesses here - it's a strange town. Soon as I GET EGGS I will sell them

and I do... www.alaskaspiritcrafts.com

Tigerjane: No, that requires a building renovation and there's a restaurant and lodge in the parking lot with us

Bare Bottom Farm: I do!

gettinaclue: If it can be made from fur, I can and probably have made it

Including bra liners!

spookwriter: The tourists have the money, I am a semi-rural area that makes it's money from the tourists. I have a gas station & convenience store in a town of about 250, but forget the locals, they're fickle. My extra room is taken up by... chickens and fur stuff...lol But I rent here.... whatcha gettin at??

I hope I didn't miss anyone!

If the locals are such duds, I'd suggest casting about for something local you can sell online somehow and make it seem trendy and cool. Sometimes it is a matter of how you describe things. Take cool pictures of whatever your product is. But something available locally only would be your best bet.

Learn how to make candles!! I used to have a business funny enought it was called (Backyard Candles & Stuff) I did really well till I just got completly burned out and quit doing it! I have people ask me everyday when I'm gonna start back up!! One day I will!! The only that the downer is your start up costs!!
