We have a flock of white pekin ducks, some of which are over 4 years old. All are descended from a single pair. They live in a completely enclosed pen with aviary netting over the top and a pond and stream running through the pen. We have lost some birds due to predators, most likely raccoons in the past. Once we had two ducks attacked by something on a second story balcony (which had been covered by aviary netting) by something that climbed up and got through the net. One of the birds survived, however he lost one eye and half of his face. I stitched him up as best I could and sprayed the wound with wound spray for a couple weeks. That was over two years ago, and he subsequently became the father of the rest of my flock.

We are very worried about our oldest duck right now because he has stopped being able to walk during the last few days. I have been encouraging fluids and giving him whole and pureed peas, which he loves, along with his usual layer pellets, and he has gotten a little better. I thought he was a goner yesterday. He can swim, but still does not walk. I am probably going to get some liquid B vitamins to put in his water. Has anyone got any other ideas? None of the other ducks are showing these symptoms.

The liquid B vitamins are great, but don’t put them in the water. You need to put it on some treats or directly in their mouth like an oral medication if you know how to do that without aspirating the duck . Definitely make a post in the duck forum. There’s a lot more duck people that will see it.
