Time for a road trip

I've never been to the East Coast, and would LOVE to visit some day.

When's the best time to visit your neck of the woods? (I admit, hurricanes fascinate me, but scare the bejeezus out of me at the same time... don't want to be there for that!!)

Just like I would love to see your area!!!!!!!!! I was stationed at the submarine base in Bangor Washington years ago and really liked the Pacific North West.

Spring and fall are probably the best times - both seasons are very long and comfortable. The heat of the summer is something you just have to experience.

98+ degres and about 80% humidity. When you walk out the door it hits you like a solid wall.

Hurricains are very powerfull storms that is for sure. We have been thru quite a few here. One of the smaller ones the eye passed right over our house. The sun came out for awhile and you could see a wall of clouds at the far end coming towards us. We were so in awe I didn't get the first pic of it, then the other side hit and back to the storm. Hurricaine Floyd caused major major flooding here in eastern NC. The land is pretty flat here and in the height of the storm it was raining so hard there was about 18 inches of water on the ground just from rain. All the bridges over the rivers were flooded and the national gaurd was running dump trucks over the bridges to ferry people from one side to the other.

wow some scary stuff!!! We get flooding here from the hurricanes but it's so mountainous here that teh flooding doesnt effect us all too much (the underground springs blow up though and our yard becomes a small river

) but anywho it's really facinating going down to the rivers and seeing rivers that are so far down tehy look like streams so flooded that they are touching the bridge! LOL! Its facinating here but down there where it's flat I can imagine the terror that some have to deal with

Right now is the best time to visit here. Well, any time between Memorial Day and Labor Day... there seems to be an unspoken agreement that that is "tourist season". The sidewalks are rolled up after Labor Day. LOL! It's gorgeous right now... highs in the 60s-70s, skeetos aren't too bad yet, and the fish are starting to run. I did San Antonio in August one year, so I experienced the 98°F/98% humidity stuff... no thanks!

blech!
Bainbridge Island/Bremerton/Bangor... all of that area of Washington is beautiful. I miss it.

What's a sidewalk?

Steve

A mythical beast that allows tourists to wander the traps...er, shops... of touristy towns like Homer.

It curls up on itself after Labor Day and disappears, like the tourists.

Actually, we have no sidewalks in Sterling, where I live. In fact, I live on a dirt road!!
