I had a lady at the fair last year yell at me and start crying after she asked what we do with the birds (chickens and turkeys) and rabbits once the fair is over. She told me that we should just buy our meat in the grocery store and not hurt any animals. I asked her exactly where she thought the grocery store got their meat from and she said they make meat in factories. Some people just don't have a clue....
I cannot believe this really and she ws serious. wow. I cannot imagion not knowing where my food comes from. I guess that is the best part of raising your own meat (other then how much better it tastes) you know the animal has been treated well and has lived a much better life then in the "meat factory" and you have a wonderful learning process for your kids.
I will never forget the day I picked my three year old up from school and she told me she wanted ham for Dinner I told her I didn't have any and she informed me we should just go to the zoo and get one of those pigs and slaughter it and cook it for dinner. I guess it is good she doesn't think her food just come from a magic grocery store. lol
She was extremely angry. Along with couple of other 4-H parents and high school ag teacher, I was trying really hard not to laugh. I didn't want to upset her more but it was hard to keep a straight face. I can't believe people really think that meat is made in factories. If the world ever comes to a screaching halt there's gonna be a LOT of people in serious trouble.
