Thank you to all of you for your assistance. We went to the local feed store here in north central MA and picked up 4 chicks- one "production red" and three partridge rock. We have 2 more on order for the shipment next week- araucanas? They are so cute. The little red already ate a may fly (this impressed my kids to no end). They are in the brooder and we are so proud. Our old terrier mix thinks they are her babies and is growling at our small terrier if she even goes near the brooder.

One quick question- they gave us chicken started and it's "medicated". I saw another post about organic starter. I didn't even ask if they sold that! What the gave me is what they were fed at the store. It seems the consensus is to go with organic?

My husband is busy unloading the $300 worth of coop building supplies right now. We can't wait for our new adventure!

I go with non medicated for my layers. Have you fed them the medicated already? Grats on the new chicken addiction!

Yes, I opened the bag and fed them. And, that's what they'd been fed in the store. What's your opinion?

I am so happy for you and your family! I was told to feed them medicated starter feed unless they were vaccinated against Coccidia. You can always switch to organic feed after this bag of starter feed is done.

Congrats on the babies! Love how your dog has already taken the role of protector.
