We (DuramaxGirl & DoubleTake) are starting up the Bators! First Hatch This Year! Starting 1/18/2012!

I just set some ducks egg a couple of days ago and will soon be incubating some black copper marans eggs (girls were covered by rumpless, tufted Araucana boys and are showing egg bullseyes!), so I am hoping for some first generation olive eggers!

Using a Brinsea Eco 20 w/auto turner. Thing works like a champ!

Right on! Good for you on making your own! What are you making it out of? Wishing you a great hatch! But I warn you out is very addicting!!:D

Thanks! I am really excited :) I am hoping the bator turns out ok. I have one of those styrofoam coolers that I connected a 25 watt light bulb to with duct tape, some chicken wire, and a digital outdoors thermometer. I am really really hoping it works!

You could try starting a thread to get more help on making your bator here in BYC.
If you've got it set up I'd run it for 24 or more hours to make sure you don't have any temp spikes before setting your eggs. The hatching eggs seem to handle cool temps better then the high temp spikes. Although dani (doubletake) and I have had our fare share of temp spikes and still hatched out babies...
Good luck with your eggs!

Thanks! I am very much excited for them! I hope to get some tufted hatchlings just because I LOVE tufts!

What kind of duck eggs?

Pekin ducks! First time incubating duck eggs, so hopefully I don't mess it up too badly. I have a dozen in the 'bator. Most will be for food, like any resulting drakes, but I will keep a pair or trio of ducks 'cause they're so fun and well, ducky!

You'll want a thermostat in there, otherwise the temp will do its own thing.

I set my chicken eggs, when they went in the temp jumped up from a steady 100 to 101, I adjusted the thermostat and now it's back to where it should be. The thermometer in the watersnake is reading 100, the one thats next to the OEGB eggs is reading 99.3, and another thats outside the egg cartons is reading 100, works for me!

Got the bator turned on an running. It seems to remember what I had it set to in the garage. In less then 2 hours its at 99.6. I love my GQF! Like a rock when it comes to holding a temp! (as long as I keep my 4 year old away from it)
Now to get those girls to lay more eggs...

Maybe a nice bribe could get those girls to lay enough eggs for the 'bator. Some nice oatmeal or other treat first thing in the morning might help get their egg laying factories in gear!
