Congrats !!!

We had a game hen hatch out 18 chicks a couple of months ago. DH said he had never heard of a hen having that many before. Wait until I tell him about yours!!!

I would be concerned about the 2 hens being together. Do they have enough room to stay apart? Since they made their nests in different areas, I would be worried about them fighting & hurting the other ones chicks. Can you move the one with the fewer chicks to another safe area?

Our free range game hens with chicks, fight every time one crosses the others territory. I've had to break them up, cause blood was drawn.

Great pics....I used to have a pair of Egyptians, they are such pretty birds.

So far the hens are okay - they are each in a box with their chicks at opposite ends of the fenced in area. I guess we'll keep an eye on them and if it becomes a problem then we'll put some fence in between them.

What an excellent mama you have there! Tell me, of the breeds you own, which are the best egg layers and calmest. I've heard that Phoenix are hard to own because they are very broody and hide their eggs. I think your birds are lovely. Where are you from?

I almost separated my broody hens, I have the triplets (3 bantams that all went broody on the same nest) and then Sydney, my black australorp. Sydeny is a very good mama and accepts all chicks. Sometimes the bantam chicks woudl even sleep with her instead of one of them. But the bantams do not like the chicks that are not theirs. It is really weird. At least I know how awesome Sydney is though. and how mean those little bantams can be, but Sydney assured me that she can handle those bantams and not to worry about it. I did not have any bloody fights or anything like that though.

Very Cute!
How can you tell the chicks apart? Perhaps the one mama took some of the other mama's babies (?)

Good mom's - I love that pic with the baby peeking out!
