I'm so excited to tell you all that we got our first eggs for our new farm! No, they're not ratites (can't afford ostrich, Emu or Rhea eggs just yet), but these will (hopefully) be the first chickens I've had since I was 8!!! I bought a dozen Black Jersey Giant eggs off eBay. Boy, was I ever surprised when I opened the box and found 24 eggs!! They said they would send some extras in case some broke in shipping, but I wasn't expecting DOUBLE! And there were only two that had very minor cracking! I ended up taping over the cracks, as a we had a lot of success doing that with cracked eggs when I was a kid. So here's hoping! *fingers crossed*

We set the chicken eggs 3 days ago and I am having such a hard time resisting opening the incubator! I found a way to occupy myself, though! I'm working on the brooder the chicks will go in once they hatch! Three sides done so far!

I do have a separate thermometer in the incubator, but it's just a glass thermometer like you use to check your temperature, so it doesn't tell me the humidity. I have a combination thermostat and hygrometer ordered, but it hasn't come in yet. Hoping it will arrive tomorrow. As for pics of the incubator, I unfortunately don't have any right now and I'm not at home to take any. (My sister is monitoring the eggs while I'm out.) I'll post pics in the morning when I get home.

The incubator doesn't seem to have a brand name. I got it off eBay. Unfortunately, due to a tragic power outage, we only have 7 viable eggs left. They have been extremely active when candled and I have even seen a few eggs rocking in the incubator, but I'm concerned about the temp and humidity in the incubator. None of my thermometer/hygrometer readings are matching. I don't know which one to go by. Can anyone advise me on this?

I'm sorry...the only way to know is to calibrate one.
