We got our first egg!

I guess 2 of the other girls finally decided to pitch in and my son found 3 eggs last night!

Tonight I played a little trick on my son. He's 14 and has always been involved with the birds.
I've been letting him get the eggs.

Tonight, he checked and there was only 2.

Shortly after I heard the hen, call out her "egg is here" call. So I told my son he missed one. He was sure he had looked all around the cage (he missed one in the sand box the other day ;-) ) I told him to double check, because I saw an egg in the cage.

So he looked and was puzzled, then all of a sudden he yells from the bird room....

"Hey, no fair, they just laid this one!! It's still warm"!!
I just laughed!

We are up to 12 now, and I will cook them in the morning!

We scrambled some this morning!

7 out of 9 were fertile! I tried to get a pic, maybe i'll post it later!

So excited!

Will have to throw a few in the incubator next week!

Sure is!
So far only 2 out of 12 didn't have the bullseye! The boys have been busy!

My son wasn't sure why I was so excited. He says mom, what difference does it make now? you can't hatch it once its cracked.

The girls are laying the eggs later each night too! And right after my son checks for eggs. I found one last night at 11pm! He's convinced they are doing it on purpose to mess with him.

Can someone point it out to me? I'm not seeing it. Is ti the little whitish spot on the yolk?

Plus he has a point there. Can't hatch it once it's in the pan.

I'm waiting for someone to invent clear egg shells so we can watch the eggs develop.

True, once it's in the pan... lol...

Well, I explained to him that now that we know it's fertile, we can start to incubate without wasting time.

He's not so sure he wants to give up breakfast.

He's 14 and has always been a big part of our raising birds.

Yes, your right about the bullseye. It's hard to get a good pic and I was in the middle of cooking when I took this one.

It is the little whitish spot, a little up from the bottom about and about the center of the egg.

Oh a clear shell would be so great!

The quail are so hard to candle!
