Our girls started laying last Sunday!! We've had 2 eggs everyday since (one was a soft shell). I've read that it's not uncommon for a soft shelled egg to be laid when they first start laying. Hopefully that's true so I won't worry about it for now.
I was keeping an eye on the calendar and their behavior so I'd already began the switch over to layer feed and set out a larger pan of oyster shells. I've noticed a big increase in the amount of food they are eating too.
When I sat with the girls yesterday they all (we have 6 hens) were squatting! They all squatted at the exact same time and it looked hilarious so of course I followed up with...."Yes... bow to your leader!!" (I didn't realize hubby was in the garden and started laughing at me).
