Mine were 2 years old before they ever saw a chicken and as you see above he does fine with them. He had to learn the hard way, but now he is very protective of them. My chickens free range with my dogs in the yard all of the time. They can be grown and learn as well as a puppy can learn.

YEAH DEBI!!! She looks like a total sweetheart. I'm sure she is going to love you so much, for taking her in and giving her food and love.

Here is our Shepherd/Husky(?) mix, Sugar, that we took in as a pregnant stray 2-1/2 years ago.

She was very timid and submissive when we first got her (pretty sure she had been beaten) and it took quite a while to fully earn her trust, but she is one of the best dogs ever now.

I would NEVER trust her with my chickens though. Here she is hoping for a nice rooster dinner.

Combine vomit, some musty smelling fish and a lil bit of garbage with a smelly coop and a metallic smell LOL That's all I got, it really is horrible!!!

Sorry I was side-tracked with the awful thought of penguin smell!! Congrats on the babies, and the momma is a cutie!!! She looks so young! I have a rescue pup that is 8 months old, found him getting beat up in the corner of the pin by the other dogs, scrawny pitiful and horribly timid! Being the animal lover I am I had to adopt him, the timid ones who look sick and pitiful are almost always the last to go and this lil guy, he stole my heart! His name is Jake, he was beaten by who ever had him first, but we have earned his trust and he has earned his spot in the family.

Here is Jake the day I brought him home...

Several medications and vet trips later, here is my AMAZING dog today, he is absolutely the best dog I have ever had!!! He is just down right amazing! Jake and my daughter are best friends, even when she pulls his ears or randomly sits on him!
