hey guys!

ugh well we have a man down. we think we have cocci in the chicks and maybe in the turks. we had a droopy poult so i dosed them with the Corid (in the water 4cc/gal) that i've been using for the chicks. but sadly we found a little poult body this morning.

aside from the Corid anything i should do?

i'm really worried about Mr Pipps - our first poult who was raised with the chicks - he's looking a bit droopy but yesterday i saw him drinking the Corid water. i havent caught him pooping yet but i'm wondering if there is something else i should be doing??

i'll be gone about half the day and nervously wondering - any advice would be heaven sent.

thanks!

If it's cocci the corrid should knock it out. I have never used the corrid we use Sulmet if needed for cocci, usually the medicated feed is all we use. You definatly want to check out the poo and see what that says.

I would also hard boil up some eggs and feed them that, the extra protein will help. Keeping them active and eating is a big help.

What kind of area do you have them in right now? If it's a brooder box change the litter right away, if an outside pen make sure there is no wet or muddy spots and if you have any sand or dirt it would be really good to put down a new layer over the old.

thanks Steve - i'm just now back

i'm about to take them the hb eggs... and yes we suspect the ducks may be the culprit. for the first time we have the ducks/ducklings in the yard and they make a big wet soup. we had them separated for a while but they all got along so we let them run together..... so thats what our mistake.

for now we immediately cleaned everyone's (big and airy) coops - we have two batches of momma's + babies. they are separated and have fresh straw, feed, and corid. our tom + the other BR hen are in a separate run altogether....and miracle of miracles.. Runner just sat on a nest.

Mr Pipps is with the chicks (mix of breeds from a hatchery) and everyone has Corid in the water....no ducks up there and everything is dry dry dry with fresh gravel. looks like i'm headed to the yard for another ton of gravel to get the duck pen under control. hard lesson learned
:-(

the feed store had the corid and i'd have had to drive 2 towns over for the sulmet but i'll keep an eye on anyone in case we have the change.

thanks for the tips. we were wondering if the poult we lost a couple weeks ago actually had this and wasnt the accidental death we thought.

Ducklings and poults don't mix. The ducks are just tooooooo wet. Keep us informed- fingers crossed for a quick recovery!

Check online for your "supplies" If you can find a sale or sometimes free shipping even you can get it alot cheaper. In the feed stores around here they mark it up quite a bit.

thanks Steve!

i sat there and came up with all kinds of wild ideas about how get everyone into other yards and get the fences moved around. one plan involved a 'turkey poult cannon' to get them over the fence (and the ducks) into the next pen...

but then my hubby says "why dont you just switch coops?"

oh well sure if you wanna do it the easy way.

so tomorrow we are switchin' coops and that will be the end of the turks in the duck soup!

i'm still gettin' gravel tho. next to the Sears for tools...and going to the dump...my favorite thing is getting a ton of gravel. i keep telling my husband how lucky he is that i'm not one of those fancy girls who likes shoes or jewelry...
