We have 33 eggs in the incubator that were due to hatch today. After a short power outage last week the temp spiked to 104 and we were sure they were all goners so we have tried not to have our hopes to high.

This morning at 7:00 we one egg with a pip ( at least I think that a pip is were they are breaking thru the shell) By 9:00 we had two with pips and now we are up to three with the first chick having most of its beak out.

Do most things sound like they are on track ? Also should we be happy with the 3 or hold out hope for more? ( I know to leave them in )

It sounds like things will be fine. If 50% of them hatch, then I would consider that a good hatch... sometimes it can be much higher. Once they pip, it could take as long as 3 days to fully hatch, though it's usually faster than that, just depends on the eggs. I have found that my chicken eggs generally hatch within 24 hours of the first pip, but again, it could take longer.

Regarding the temp spike, 104 degrees for a short time shouldn't cause a problem, especially if you are using a Still Air incubator.

Also, try to leave the lid closed until all of the chicks have hatched, it can make you have a more successful hatch.

Thank you for the reassurance(sp?) It's great to hear that the spiked shouldn't have cooked them.
