Hey I’m Amber and my family just got 9 baby chick two days ago. Our second time but last time I was pregnant so couldn’t handle and care for (husband had to do it all). My daughters are helping this time. They are 6 and 3 and love our chicks. 8 are doing great and growing, but one little lady is struggling. I named her Muhammad Ali because she was fighter. She’s smaller and just stayed under her heater plate, getting smooshed I think. We separated her and gave her more heat and water (hand fed) every 30 minutes. She has picked up a little but seems to have trouble standing. She is trying but just face plants or lays on her belly like she’s tiered. Poor baby. Hopefully she gets her strength back. She was standing last time I checked on her, it couldn’t really walk like her siblings. They jump around and have energy. She seems very tiered. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Welcome! I hope your little lady gets better - that's a cute name. Do you have any nutridrench? It's quite helpful at perking up weak chicks, especially if they're thin, and can give them more energy to eat and drink. What do her droppings look like? Are they on a medicated feed (against coccidiosis?)

Hello Amber, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

As mentioned, try supplementing her with a high quality poultry vitamin/mineral supplement. If this has never happened to you before, please be prepared to lose her as many chicks will just not make it no matter how much support you give them. It is called failure to thrive (FTT). I have only saved one out of about 6 that showed this. All were shipped chicks. I've never seen FTT in chicks hatched under my broody hens.
