We just hatched a duck could we house train it???

we just hatched a duck and it's really cute but it was the only one to hatch so it has no friends. Were scared if we put it with it's parents and the other ducks it will feel left out anyway we were wondering weather we could house train it so it wont poo everywhere. Is there anyway it could be like a house duck like a cat or a dog????

Please give me tips on how to do this or if i can do this

Congratulations!

Ducks are physically unable to hold it (except for when broody), so if you want it to be a houseduck, consider a duck-crate or small section of a room that can easily be cleaned up, and possibly a diaper harness.

Ducks have loads of personality, and can be trained to do many things. I have a bunch that are pets. Because there is a flock of 13, I keep them either in their basement pen or outside during the day in their day pen. I come to them for visits and "conversation." They love their outdoors time, and are content inside as long as they get enough human attention.

Take a look at Melissamerry and her adventure ducks. Nettie also has indoor ducks, and there are more members who keep at least one duck inside. Sometimes it starts out like yours, with a single duck. Sometimes it's due to injury or illness. It may be short term or long term.

Please keep us posted on your thoughts. Do you have an area that might be dedicated to duckspace?

Ducks are social, and so a couple of little duck buddies might be a really good long term approach.

Agreed with Amiga. Ducks are fantastic and curious pets. Ducks are VERY social and will require a lot of attention,like a dog or they will get lonely. House training can definitely be done. Like Amiga said, ducks have no sphincter and cannot "hold" their potty. I myself have a couple of diaper harnesses for my 2 Runners and use them occasionally to take the ducks on "field trips". Mine sleep outside with my chickens though.I got my diaper harnesses from Nettie. She has a profile on here, but she sells the harnesses through Etsy, her profile on their is called Party Fowl. What kind of ducks do you have?

^ Yep, what they said! Ducks are fun pets but unfortunately they can't "hold it," so you can't potty train them. If you want to keep your duck inside, you'll have to designate an area of the house for your duck to run free and poop as he pleases. I put tarps down on the floor, and every couple days I hose them down. Nettie makes great diapers that I'd highly recommend for when you're letting your duck explore other parts of the house. One thing to consider is that ducks get lonely very easily, so if you work or go to school, you might want to think about bringing another duck inside so that your duck has someone to socialize with when you're not around.

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this duck thing. City girl now living in rural Australian and have been fostering a Bantam duckling. Finally has all his feathers but want to keep him and have him come and go into the house. Can someone please let me know how to contact the lady Nettie who can sell me a diaper harness. He's beautiful and full of spirit even though he was the runt and I love him dearly. So if anyone can help it would be most appreciated. Most of my friends think I'm crazy already so may as well prove them right and adopt a duck.
