We lost our Tyrion this morning :hitHe(?) was our smallest gosling, never seemed to grow at the rate of my others but seemed healthy otherwise. He got the same swelling in his ankle joint that Andre had a few weeks ago but his wouldn't go down. He became feverish last night and stopped drinking or eating so I tried to get ahold of the local avian vet (she's extremely hard to catch, especially on Thursdays) but he passed before I heard anything back.

I was soaking his little foot in Epsom salt dissolved in water just like Andre, twice a day for 2 days but never saw a change. Also could not find anything wrong in general, no bumblefoot, punctures wounds of any kind, his foot looked perfectly fine aside from the swelling.
I stayed up all night with him last night to keep an eye on him and encouraging him to drink very often. I feel just terrible about it. He passed when I finally fell asleep this morning.

Hubby and mother in law think he may have had something wrong with him from birth. When I bought them, we were told they were 1-2 days old but Tyrion always seemed behind the development of the others. He was much smaller, got his first feathers much later. Has anyone ever heard of that before?

I have a runt silkie chick right now named Short Round that is only half the size of the other silkie chicks she came with, even though they all hatched out on the same day. She is definitely lagging behind developmentally despite eating and drinking just as much as the others - they are already getting pin feathers in their wings and tails while she is still all baby fuzz.

That is exactly like my Tyrion! My others are are fully feathered now and he was was still 3/4 down feathers, not to mention he was less than half their size. But up until last night, he would eat and play just as much as the others. It just doesn't make sense. And he went down fast, especially considering that he had the exact same issue Andre (my biggest gosling) had and Andre was back to normal within a couple of days.
