We lost all our girls :(

Strongly agree! Awful stuff happens, and many of us have had similar losses. Chickens are still great critters to have around. By the time you're through going over that coop and changing whatever needs changing, you'll be wanting more!

All doors are secured with metal latches, but it we were thinking there was something prying open the roof, so we were holding that down with bungees as well as having hooks on everything else. It was the ventilation opening that was the problem

We thought it was small enough nothing could get in but we were wrong! My husband is trying to come up with a way to get rid of the gap.

I am so sorry for your loss...I know it feels horrible. This summer has been rough here.....started in June....coyote grabbed my beautiful buff cochin from the front yard...a month later coyote was no more. Then a fox showed up....found him standing on one of my girls about 5:30 in the evening...he got a boot to the face and my girl was okay....then lost a bantam to the fox...came right into the garage and snatched her while I was right inside the door filling waterers...and 4 days ago fox returned and got my 1 year old Black Orp that I drove 5+ hours to get from Speckledhen last year. A trap has been set the past 3 nights...I will get him.

Invest in a medium sized trap...they are fairly inexpensive (Less than $40 at TSC for a combo of 3 traps I believe)...decapitation is the work of a coon...catch him and his family and eliminate them...it will be back.
