And raccoons are very smart! The chance of them learning and avoiding the poison is high.


Get some hardware cloth. Secure the coop. Locking your birds in a safe secure coop at night will protect them.

Yeah. We did all this. Plus we have our variety crows and other wildlife and nothing has worked like this. We had to pellet this poor skunk when it got caught in outbreak snare traps, he wasn’t bothering them.

Last time it was like this 30 pound coon. We put the pink juice out after we figured he was coming in through our fence and onto the top of the chicken house. Now he’s no one’s problem and that’s what I want. I care as much for raccoons as I do rattlers or mice or rats.

Not judging but your method of critter control does nothing to prevent your chickens from being eaten alive. Making the coon suffer a horrible death may make you feel better but does nothing to stop another coon from killing more chickens when it finds them too.The only reliable method of critter control is preventing them from having access to your chickens in the first place.I'm sorry for your loss and hope you change your method of critter control so your chickens will live long and happy lives.They deserve it!

I would rather use a leg trap followed by gunshot dispatch, but in the suburbs you can’t do that. Plus, it’s way messier.

You need to get it in a live trap for that. We only caught skunks, which were hard to release obviously.

If you cover the trap with a blanket, they can't see you. Then you can do whatever you need to do without getting "skunked." You can leave the front open so they can breathe, just don't let them see you. I learned that from an Animal Control Officer in NM.
