We need advice!

You can cull your birds whenever you want to eat one. We may do a few when they are about the size of a cornish hen 3-4lbs, but mostly we wait until they reach the size around 8-10lbs. The temp. outside really doesn't matter although it might be easier for you, if you are doing the butchering yourself, if it is cooler. This way the flies aren't so bad.

Either early morning or late in the afternoon for us. Especially here in the South when the temps are around a 100 degrees with humidity. I am afraid the chicken would fry on its own !!

From what I know, people prefer a chill to avoid flies and keep stink to a minimum if you're doing a daylong process.


It's also preferable to do manual labor in cooler weather.

The guy who taught me did it on an 85 degree day.
