Hi
smile.png
.
We bought what this guy told us were 5 Black Australorps, 4 Production Reds and 1 Rhode Island Red. We were excited and ready to have chickens, so we bought them.
We know we've got the Black Australorps correctly, but We're pretty sure we have 1 Production Red instead of RIR, and we aren't too sure what the other 4 are.
We also got 4 chickens from a friend, they told us 2 of them are Buff Orpingtons and 2 are Dominique. We've looked through the breed section on here a million times comparing the pictures, and we just can't figure it out! We would appreciate someone helping us out here!

These are what he told us are "3 Production Reds and 1 RIR" What do you think?

Also, here are some eggs we've gotten from some of the Buffs and Doms, not sure if that will help identify them. (don't mind the quail eggs!)

Thanks a bunch.

I think you have it figured out rightly. The really "barn yard mix" of the hens supposedly "production reds" suggest a second generation mix of former Red Sex Links perhaps, but in any case, mutts or mixes to be sure, although they likely lay OK, right? Love the Dom. Aussies look nice too. All in all, not a bad flock.

Yes, so far with the Buffs and Doms, they are laying pretty regular. We're getting between 2-3 eggs a day from them, and still waiting for the 4th to start laying. We even got a double-yolk the other day.

Pretty little Dominique, and the buffs are lovely, too. I think you have it figured right, there is one RIR or prod red, and the others are some sort of cross or second generation red sex link. I think they too are pretty! They more than likely will lay very well for you. Your flock looks very happy and your dog seems to be behaving it self!

Red and whites are a sex-link, maybe a "homemade" version vs hatchery bred. The red hen is RIR or production red, can't really tell from pics. The Australorps, buff Orps and Dom are just that. Looks like a great laying flock!
