We now own part of a cow. Raw milk question.

We drink raw milk in my family, and it has helped us with digestive issue. I get raw milk from a friend, and it is the best milk. I will never buy store bought milk again. They have a friend whose daughter is lactose intolerant and cannot drink milk from the store, but has no problem drinking the raw milk. I hope this answers your question. Just make sure that they are using safe procedures. The milk I get never touches air until they put it in my jug to bring home, and they always use a special sant. to wash out my jug.

No we are far away from there. Between Flint and Port Huron

I didn't think that many Amish lived in that part of the state. I thought they were mainly in Osceola, Clare, Gladwin & Iosco counties.

They are in Marlette & deliver near my work.

One thing to keep in mind about handling raw milk differently -- I was always told to NOT re-dip spoons etc back into the milk container, if you put the spoon or utensil in your mouth. It is easy to add germs into the milk that way. I have not noticed much health affects myself, but I have friends who swear by it. For example a vegetarian who had many ailments (skin, joints, nails) clear up after she started drinking raw milk.

I loooove making my own yogurt from fresh raw milk -- I do not wait until milk gets old like many people do, to make yogurt (the yogurt gets too tangy). If you make yogurt from super-fresh milk, the yogurt tastes super-fresh too and lasts forever without spoiling. Yum.

Enjoy!

We have added three jersey milk cows to our farm, and are giving lots of milk to friends and family. I wanted to make cheese, but kind of went overboard!!! I did tons of research before this venture, and while I am very new to this, I think that we are doing a good job, and are providing awesome dairy products. I can give you specifics about cleanliness, storage, techniques, feed, and products if you would like to pm me. My husband is a veterinarian, so we play strictly by the book!!!!! There are tremendous variations in herd health and sanitation.

I am curious to know what the Amish charge for milk shares? I'm sure that you will enjoy you rmilk!!!! The health benefits are incredible, as is the taste.

I would love to know the specifics about cleanliness, storage, techniques, feed, and products.

As the the price, it is one of the lowest I have found around here. $5.50 a gallon, but there is a one time $225 for the 1/10 of the cow (Jersey-Holstien cross). Of which $200 is refundable if I want to bail out on the milk.

I would love to drink raw milk! I bought some nigerian dwarf goats thinking one day I would would breed them and have my own milk. So far it hasn't happened but maybe one day!

I was raised on a dairy farm all we had was real milk, always had to shake the jug to mix the cream, I can't stand the store bought stuff
