We now own part of a cow. Raw milk question.

I would love to own half of a dairy cow with another famlly...heck, I would be happy if I could just find raw milk locally.

I will never understand why it is legal to buy sushi and not raw milk. Here in Ohio herdshares are the only way to get it. We are considering starting one because we have a lot of people that want it. I am just not sure it is worth the hassle to set up. In the mean time. We are making butter, yogurt, sour cream, butermilk, cheese, icecream and whipped cream. The chickens still end up getting about 10 gallons a week.

I grew up on a small dairy farm Drinking raw milk to my hearts content. We made homemade ice cream at least once a month, many times alot more than that during the summer, we would just skim the cream in the morning before the milking got started. After I got married nd moved into town (which I hate BTW) my dad and uncle sold all the cows and now they just rent the ground. It was right around that time that I started getting allergies I had never had them before while I was drinking raw milk. A few weeks ago I found a interesting website. www.ftcldf.org It stands for Farmer to consumer legal defense fund and they have a petition that can be filled out to support an upcoming bill introduced by congressman Ron Paul that woul effectivly end the FEDERAL raw milk ban. We've been drinking raw milk for about 1.5 years, and it is wonderful. The pasteurized stuff just turns me off. I skim the cream, put it in the blender and voila butter and whey. The farm we buy from is an organic dairy and they graze their cows - that makes a big difference is the quality of the milk. Not sure if I would trust raw milk from grain-fed cows.

As far as health issues being cleared up, we were pretty healthy to start with, but we have noticed we don't get sick nearly as often as we used to. We will never go back to dead milk.

I got my first raw milk, butter and yogurt.

Soo far Sooo good. No adverse reactions. My head did not explode or my colon fall out of my a s s.

It has been pretty funny gauging other peoples reaction. They ask what does it taste like? How thick is it? Uuummm it tastes like milk just a little creamier and the thickness is the same. Then they try it and they are like wow...it taste like milk. Duhhh, because it is milk.
