We processed 4 of our cornish x 30 more to go

PC the weight difference baffled me too. My digital scales doesn't go over 5 lbs and the other scales were old. We do cut the wings off since no one really eats the wing. So that might be a big difference.

I think I might try the scalding water for the next bunch. I'm a Vick's believer so I have plenty. I just don't like those quill looking things all over the skin.

I fried one tonight and it was GREAT!!!! My girls really liked it too except we don't eat many fried foods and they didn't like the greasiness. So I'm going to put one in the rotissorie tomorrow night.

Today, I went to the school I had been working for the last 5 years but had to quit due to health problems. Everyone thought I was crazy for raising my own meat chickens. But my former boss said he had to agree that farm raised chickens were lots better tasting.

I have 30 more to go.

OMG, I wish I were next door to you. I'd ask you to save those wings for me. That's my favorite part. And you throw them away!?

Couldn't you use them for stock, take the meat off the bones after stewing and have yummy soup?

Or freeze them all together in a big bag, and make hot wings when you have a party.

At my house we "dispatch" then butcher.

I'll be dispatching my first Cornish sooner than expected. I ordered the "Heavy Assorted" from McMurray and got 4 of them (Cornish). I can't believe how dang fast they grow. They want to lay in the feeder and eat 24/7. I had to separate them from the others as they were quite literally hogging ALL the food.
