We think Rhode Island Red, but no idea on gender... 4 months old

Pretty sure heritage RIRs are a very dark mahogany color, like the OPs birds, not bright orange-red like the ones above. You sure those aren't regular RIR or New Hampshires, Tre3hugger?

A quality heritage RIR almost looks black they are such a deep mahogany.

I'd say those are NH or Production Reds.

Mixed breed. Looks like a slow developing cockerel. Very patchy color and what look to be male saddles.

Can you get better pics of the saddle area?

Agreed. Mixed breed cockerel. Those white shanks and skin are rather interesting.

First thing I noticed on OP picture was shanks not yellow
