I don't recall what the exact wording is, but there is not going to be an annual license/permit system. Instead, they are going to do the same thing our town does with the burn permits. You fill out a one-time "permit" and sign something saying that you have been given a copy of the rules and that you will abide by them or suffer the consequences.

No fee for the permit, but if you get chickens and have not done the little paperwork there is, you can be fined for that. The city manager figured out that it would cost at least $100 per permit to recoup the city's costs if a permit system was put in place.

Chickens in town are front page news again. Above the fold, even. Apparently someone is going around switching signs. Both signs I've had in my yard have been stolen so I was not a victim of THIS particular infraction.

WE WON!! Measure M was voted on yesterday. 52.55% said yes, and 47.45% said no. Six hens will be allowed within city limits in about 30 days!!!

Wow, that is fantastic news! It has been quite a journey for your town and I'm so happy for you. It is great that you took us through the process. I appreciate this because I am interested in eventually tweaking our city's ordinances from allowing 3 hens to 6 hens in the future. Thanks again and Congrats!
