We had to do our first assist today. 24 hours of no progress after first pip. 2 others hatched in this time. This chick is tiny, weak, laying around and not eating or drinking.
It will walk some (fall over), chirp, lift it’s head.
I read about sugar water drops and it took some.
How often do I do this???? Just a drop or two on the beak? Any advice? This chick hatched 6 hours ago.

This is normal for a new chick. They need their rest the first 24 hours.

I agree with Turkey Girl -- it's totally normal. And I've never had brand new hatchlings eat before two or three days old.

Little chick started eating around 8 hours after hatch. She’s doing well this morning. Our chicks always eat immediately after being placed in the brooder. This one was weak. She came from a new layer and the egg was small. She is small but SUPER CUTE! Feathers all bright yellow and fluffy.
