my hen hatched out 5 chicks two days ago. 1 got squished, and 1 got left behind and got really cold I saved it warmed it up, and it's living with me inside right now. I went outside to check on mama and babies and one of the chicks was very lethargic not moving around much. I picked it up and it's very weak. I flipped it over and found that the tummy DIDNT form around the yolk at birth. It is now formed around and healed but that chick has a weird smell coming from it. It's smells like dog anal glands. I got water in it but it's not eating. I have it inside with the chick I reduced, and the rescued chick is doing perfectly fine but the lethargic one is not. I am not sure if maybe it's tired? Mama hasn't taken them inside at all today. It's breathing fine but it keeps closing its eyes

Perhaps the yolk got infected and now it has an internal infection? How bad was the exposed yolk before it healed?
And could you post a picture of the chick?

I have no idea how bad it was. I am assuming it wasn't healed because the chick looks weird and it's bad where the yolk sack is absorbed. That's where the smell is coming from.

Please help im so scared

It looks like it healed up pretty well considering the chick was outside and with other birds.
What's the texture of that spot? Does it act like a scab, or is that the chick's skin?
Best case scenario, the smell is just the leftover yolk. Although considering the chick isn't feeling well, I'm afraid it could be more internal problems.
I'll bump this up so hopefully somebody more experienced with medicine could give advice.

Also, you should probably get it to eat. Especially with an unabsorbed yolk, it's missing some nutrients.
I would scramble some eggs and see if that will tempt it, chickens love cooked eggs. Perhaps mix some of its regular food with yogurt.

Okay I will thank you! The tummy feels normal it doesn't have a weird color. Maybe should I wash it very gently and put some chlohexadine on it?
