hello , late yesterday 2 ringnecks hatched, one was deformed, big head and legs a mess, the other looked good but is still weak , ive been giving some sugar water every 15 mins or so, he did finally peep a few times, and can get up and move, but he really just sleeps, how much sugar can i give, i put 1 tsp to a quart, id like to make it stronger? should i try to force food? help,
juliet

hes doing better, yesterday he still got some sugar water a few times when he looked bad, he kept trying to preen his butt and then tipped over and couldnt get up, today hes on his feet and doing welll , i gave some hard boiled egg and clover to him yesterday i think the softer food helped, thanks , hes a sweety. so far all 4 are getting along ok,

thanks , 6 more eggs to go, hope for a few more to hatch, ill try to get some pics later,
juliet

I'd strongly recommend switching to PolyVisol children's liquid vitamins (the kind WITHOUT iron). That way the chick gets nutrients that are SUPER IMPORTANT at its age, as well as an energy booster.
Best wishes

When I give sugar water I mix it a lil stronger. I mix 1 TBL sp to a quart waterer. I have not had any problems yet! I only do this for the first day or if I have a slow/ weak looking chick I may do it for 3. I would not recommend giving anything other than feed, egg, yogurt, vitamins, water, sugar, etc..... The greens are too hard for them to digest yet! They do not have the digestive system for the plant material yet and they do not have any grit to grind the plants yet unless you have given it to them. But its just my 2 cents!

Good Luck and God Bless!

sounds good, thanks, i threw the clover in, someone here said some grass clippings thrown in may help keep the older chicks from fighting, so i thought clover would at least be good for them, they did quit fighting, so ill stop it, also they they do have a pan of parakeet grit for the older ones to dust in, they were kicking the shavings all over and filling the water with it, the dust bath stopped all that problem, i did get a bigger brooder to hold it all, haha ,
