Hi! My first clutch of eggs hatched last week and they all seem to be doing fine except for chick #1. He's much weaker then the rest of them, and doesn't follow Mama as actively. I want to get him outside with her before it's too late!

Symptoms:
*Weak/unbalanced
*Droopy wings
*Not as developed/strong as other chicks, despite being older by a few days.
*Doesn't eat well/at all (this flexuates).
*Sleeps (wants to, at least) way more then other chicks.

Other notes:
*Mixed bantam chick
*1.5 weeks old
*Still poops—yellow/green color.
*Water has Chick Boost probiotics.
*Chirps and gets around for the most part in his brooder.
*Given him sugar water to boost his energy but hasn't helped much.

I currently have him inside (no lamp, like he was with mama) but have supplied him with warmth from a heat pack and a place to cuddle up. He's been like this since day 1, but it wasn't as noticble until the other chicks started growing strong and moving more. Just today I had him outside with Mama when she knocked him off balance. Poor thing was stuck on his back and couldn't get up.

Any ideas on what I should do? I'm planning on keeping him under Mama at night for warmth, but I don't want him getting left behind during the day. I want to get him as strong as the others asap, but hate seeing him allaalone in the brooder. Thanks in advance!

He needs a heat lamp or a mamas heat pad. I am afraid the chick may be rejected and hurt by the broody hen. Dip his beak over and over for a second into some water with electrolytes and vitamins—pedialyte or gatorade is a good substitute. Let him swallow each drink. It could be some problem that he may not recover from. Mix a little warm water with chick feed, and try to get him eating.
