A chick was struggling to hatch and so my mom helped coerce it out of the shell. The process went well but the chick seemed very small and his abdomen seemed swollen.
My concern is that his legs don't seem to be able to bend. They kind of stick out behind him and when I try to help bend them under him there is a lot of resistance. It feels almost like there is no joint for bending there.
Also, his feet are oddly stiff for a new chick. They are completely curled in and do not settle properly.
The chick also doesn't seem weak. I don't know what is causing the concern.
It is not a slipped tendon or a spraddle leg. I have had experience with both these conditions before.
