I ordered four chickens, two australorps and two salmon favarolles, and picked them up at the post office Tuesday. In the first 24 hours one of the favarolles refused to eat or drink and died, now the second favarolle is following suit. The australorps are fine and flourishing. The heat levels are fine so I know it's not cold that's making her weak. I've tried giving her sugar water, egg yolk, making the crumbles soft--a number of things.

Is there anything else I can do? Are favarolles less shipping hardy? I am quite distressed as this is my first time raising chicks and half of them have died/seem to be on the path to dying.

It's night time .go to Walmart and buy poly VI Sol infant vitamins the liquid without iron ...without iron... give the chick one drop by mouth.
repeat every 5 hours until it's perky.
it needs food it ** doesn't **need to digest and that's what the poly -Vi-sol will do for it . it will give it quick energy that it needs to live. it's suffering probably from travel stress and that's probably what the other one died from. don't beat yourself up about it, it happens
don't wait till morning do it now

When when a chick is stressed like this it causes the GI tract to be ineffective .we give it helps it needs to digest but it is stressed and the GI tract doesn't take them up efficiently into the body systems. we give something like Poultry Nutri-Drench or Poly VI Sol without iron -because these are quick energy that doesn't need to be digested. an emergency nutritional supplement for the chick to get it back on its feet so that the GI tract will start functioning efficiently. and it can start uptake efficiently the rest of the helps you're giving it .
Best Karen
