Hi, I recently hatched one chick. It had spraddle leg so I used a Band-Aid to treat. Its legs are spaced right now, but it walks/stumbles around on its knees rather than its feet. It also seems to be getting a little weaker. It is 5 days old and still doesn't have even one tail feather. I would like to separate it from my other, older chicks but I don't have another waterer or heat lamp nor do I have the space. What should I do? Thanks!

I know everyone says separate them but I never do. I figure he'll learn better and have more motivation when he's around other chicks. Also chickens are social creatures I think it would be sad for the lil guy to be alone. There was a lady that made splints and taped the legs close together so they didn't spread. I think she had success. I think popcycle or craft sticks? Use the resources you have and give him lots of love.

I dont know what to do about the leg, but you mentioned that he was weak, make sure that he is eating and drinking like the other chicks. If not take an eye dropper, put some water in it and give him some and then take some food and feed it to him. Oh and make sure that he is warm. Hope that helped!! Could you inform me if there is any change in his behavior please? Thanks!

I'll keep you posted! Thanks!

Well, I had to put it down. When I went to put on a splint, I noticed that one of his joints was way swollen and he never moved that leg. He seemed to be in pain when I touched it and wasn't really ever moving around the box any more. It seemed like the humane thing to do.

I am so sorry...
