Weak Chick

I recently (about 3 days ago) got a group of 10 chicks. The gentleman gave us 5 extra. The gentleman said one of the extras needs some TLC. She is SO tiny! Not even half the size of the others and really weak. She is 5 days old now. She won't/cant eat on her/his own.

I have been feeding/watering her with a syringe with a needle (she drinks off the end). She is drinking honey water. She is eating a mix of liquified chick starter, egg yolk, Save A Chick, and a touch of honey. This seems to give her energy and she is starting to peep and be a little more active. She is eager when she sees the syringe now. She wont even try pecking at feed on the ground, or drink from a bowl or spoon.

Any Ideas?!

Try putting feed in your hand for her? You don't want her to be totally dependent.

Try giving it sugar water. If you have chick starter then make a wet substance with it. Dip the tip of h/h beak into it so h/h will know to peck at it. Baby parrot food would be a great thing to use if you could get some! Also the cream in cream corn is good to try.

Keep h/h separate from the others. I use a feather duster to substitute for a mother hen for the chick to get under. Hang it just off the bottom so the baby thinks it's crawling underneath a momma hen. Put a black light over the container for heat. Make sure you don't get it too hot in the container though.

Good luck
