Hi all
I'm new to here and duckling hatching. Our duck (Mrs duck) gave up sitting on her nest and so I took over with an incubator.
This little one was due today but hatched on Tuesday evening. She got stuck halfway and I had to assist the next morning as she couldn't do it. I thought she was going to die but so far it's day 2 and she's still with us. She makes a lot of noise and is in with 2 other ducklings which hatched yesterday they are both perfect.
Crispy( as we call her) can stand for short periods and moves about a bit but just sleeps and sleeps more than the other two I know they sleep a lot. Crispy will stand up take 2 steps and then sleep. I've shown her the water and she took a tiny bit. Her legs are fine. Do you think she will be ok and what else can i do? The first two pics are last night and this morning the last pic wit the others is this afternoon.

She had a rough go of it - may not have been as far along as the others - kind of a premie.

So, I'd be sure she stays warm enough, not too warm, safe from drafts, all that, and I would get her some Gro-Gel for a little boost. Give her some time to catch up. Try dribbling a little lukewarm water on her bill with your finger, or gently and quickly dip her bill in a little lukewarm water.

I am not a hatcher - this is based on things I have read on the forum. @Lacrystol and @WVduckchick and @learycow are a few of the many hatchers on here. @Miss Lydia also has some experience taking in a duckling from a hatch.

Do all you can to get her to drink and eat so she doesn't get weaker. Try gently dipping the end of her bill in the food/water often, especially when the other ducklings are over there eating so she can see what she needs to do. Vitamins in the water will help alot as well. You can also try giving a few drops of sugar water to perk her up a bit. Just drip the sugar water on the end of her bill and she should automatically open up and swallow, don't force it in at all. Good luck!

I also like Poultry Nutri Drench for new hatchlings it can be given straight and gets into the blood stream real fast. just as the others said just a tiny bit right inside the mouth the bottle at TSC has a dropper in it so easy to administer. also some in the ducklings water. First week of life they get it every day then second week 3X a week each week there after till 1X a week.

I hope the little one makes it. As Amiga said some have a rough go and just need a few days to get going so hopefully your little one will begin to perk up after a few days rest and recover. Watch to make sure the other ducklings don't trample her.
