I have a 5 month hen who has had 2 months of respiratory problems and the antibiotics associated with recovery (teramycin, duramycin, Sulmet, Tylan 50). She has been lame for nearly a week. She is weak in the hip area. She takes long strides but cannot control her balance. She will fall, with her wings out to catch herself. She walks like she is doing deep knee bends with tiny steps. Then will lose control and have one leg forward and the other out behind.

She is eating and drinking, is not fat like a video of a meat chicken (the video said that was why he was lame). She has run around room.

No sign of achillies tendon problem. No swelling seen in feet or hocks. I have wrapped the legs to help protect them when she skids on her hocks.

Could this be a result of mycoplasma problems.. MS or is an injury possible?

Please see youtube video

This chicken has been sick for almost half of her life, reading your post, which must be of real concern to you.

One assumes you have other chickens - have they shared any of the health problems this one has, or are her problems unique?

Go through the questions in the sticky, as it will help people to figure this out.

I have been through other disease charts. But thanks, I now found a few more that it could be. MS for sure, EEE, WEE though I don't know if we have any around... all our horses are vaccinated, but we live in a high mosquito area due to orchard run off. They are out flying now. Could be Mereks.

Today is a little weaker. I have given this poor thing Tylan 50 a few days ago, no help. I ordered Denagard and hope it is here today. don't now if it will help. I will let you know.

No watery or green diarrhea, but its brown due to recent shot. The others I bought at the same time... are either dead, limping with a swollen foot, or ok for the moment (total of 4 girls).

More, when I get home from work.

Her feet are nice and slim. (The other chick has a badly swollen ball of her foot.... there is no abcess. I cannot lance if it is a swollen fracture or if there is anything to ooze out. I put on Icthamol, but not enough to draw. I will add Vetrap this evening and really goo it on. )

But as far as Ann... this morning she was a little weaker. Just sat on her haunches with her feet in front of her. Quite calm, but a little puzzled looking. She is still eating well.

I will not kill her unless she looks in pain or stops eating. Then it will be a watch and wait thing.

I doubt that she has WEE, EEE... But we do have West Nile in the area. Horses have had it in the area. Oh what a bother, I feel so darn helpless. Husband suggested a vet. Well, I can tell you they will take blood, x ray and perhaps ultrasound. Looking at hundreds of dollars. If it worked weeellll, perhaps. But I don't believe she is healthy enough to fix at a vets. Either she makes it with me or she will go to the happy henhouse in the sky. I have spent thousands of dollars to repair horses that didn't repair.

She is getting worse. Cannot walk or stand anymore. She has to flop with her wings and neck outstretched to move into her bed area. I fed her and let her drink (very thirsty, I will look for symptoms/diagnosis to add that to.)

I wonder if aspirin would help? If her spinal chord is swollen? I will look for the aspirin dosage post.
