One of my chicks hatched last night at 3am, 8 hours ago. When she hatched I found two of her toes were caught in the incubator grate. There was blood all over from it. When I got the toes unstuck and stopped the bleeding and put her back, she kept flip flopping around the floor and got one stuck again. So I put a cloth under her and rolled it up on the sides like bumper pads in a baby crib. She stopped flip flopping and finally calmed. Since then we put the mat down since the air circulation wasn't good.

It's been 8 hours now and she's having trouble with leg strength and the toe she got stuck twice may be broke. The reason I say this is because it's up under the rest of the toes. She's having a hard time walking around and has been peeping loudly all night. It's actually the toe on the left foot. The others are reds looking because they were bleeding too.

Is there something I can do to help her? Here's a pic of of the toes. I can't figure out how to compact the video so you can see what is going on.

Poor chick - that's a rough start. I'd spray Vetericyn on the toes as a precaution and try taping them like you would to treat curled toes, in case there is a break or significant injury (and time is of the essence). She may simply be favoring the toes because they hurt (but aren't broken) and they may still be weak from the recent hatch, but I'd err on the side of caution. This thread may be helpful. I'd also offer Nutri-Drench or similar to help strengthen her and facilitate healing.

You'll want to closely monitor the toes to ensure they're showing improvement and aren't wrapped too tightly, etc. Best wishes for your little one's speedy recovery!

Thank you for your help. I'll do that right away.
