Two days ago I noticed my 10 month old Barred Rock girl was acting a bit lethargic. Nothing alarming, just moving a bit slower, standing around, etc. Yesterday the same and I noticed she wasn't interested in treats. Today I hear my rooster going crazy so I run outside and find her collapsed in my coop. She was on her back, legs in the air, breathing through her mouth. I scooped her up and she was limp in my arms. I thought it might be heat stroke b/c it got up to almost 90 degrees in the coop. I fed her 1.5 ml of nutridrench, and put a cool, wet towel under her wings. I syringe fed her some water and wet her waddles and comb. I took her into the garage where it was cooler. After a bit she seemed better. Her breathing was normal again but she wouldn't move. Just sat where I had put her. I got her to eat a few bites of hard boiled egg but not the whole thing. Near sundown I put her back with the flock and she could stand, but was as she had been the last 2 days. Slow moving, standing around. She had a few drinks of water, but didn't touch the food or the veggies I put out. She also couldn't make it up to the roost, I helped her. An odd note: she doesn't resist at all or vocally protest to me picking her up. I did a check, nothing around her vent except some poo, no egg binding that I could feel. No wounds, no discharge from nose/eyes/mouth, no wheezing or gurgling when breathing. I have also noticed her comb is limp. It has fallen over a bit. I'm really worried about her, she's never had anything wrong with her before. I had them all vaccinated for Marek's when they were babies, and no other hens show signs of illness. Can anyone help me? I was going to take her to the vet but it's so much money..so I'm asking for help here. Any idea what could be wrong? I don't know if she's laid an egg, all 13 hens share nest boxes so don't know whose are whose, and she did poo in the garage. it was clear and like water. I thought heat stroke but putting the pieces together of the last few days, I'm not sure. Could it be worms/cocci/etc? I'm so worried any help is much appreciated.

When they drink a lot of water they can get some watery poo, on hot days.

However, since she is acting ill I would tend to think along the lines of finding another reason for the diarrhea just in case.

How is her crop?

Is her comb pale?

If their combs are heavy and they are well endowed so to speak the comb can flop over. I have even had Buff Orpingtons with floppy combs...perfectly healthy. However, a pale comb would be from anemia, molting (normal in molting I have read), or something else I haven't thought of at the moment.

Is she gasping for breath silently?

Lastly, is she thin? Feel along the keel in front of her chest and see if you feel some meat on her bones on either side. Worms can make them thin...compare her to the other hens.

Her crop is empty, or maybe just a little bit but not full like the others. Her comb isn't pale, it's red. She was gasping for breath when I found her yesterday on her back in the coop. But after about 30 minutes her breathing returned to normal. And no, I checked and she doesn't feel especially boney to me. I can feel her breast bone but can on the others too. Just the lack of appetite, listlessness..it's like she's going on about 50% or so. I am not sure but don't think she's laid, and no interest in treats. She drinks which is good but isn't nearly as lively as the others. Just stands around or even sits in the run.
