Weak molting hen New symptom *pics added*

Worms attach themselves to the intestional lining and the tears in the lining can become infected. By the time the stools are foul there is an advanced intestional infection going on. When my birds were sick, the foul stools were a huge clue, the stools did not look normal either. They were thin, clear, green, bloody, all different colors. When the infection is extensive enough, the toxins from the ecoli or cocci, or whatever goes through the birds system causing sepsis and death will ensue unless antibiotics are given. It is rare that the bird by then will pull out of it. The parasites have weakened them so much by then it is just the downward death spiral. Here is a link:

Mites and heartworm preventative (in dogs) is about all I trust it for anymore.
I truly hope your hen recovers. I'm going through sickness here also. Have lost a couple and some are still sick.

The worms you saw couldve been the underlying cause of what I believe to be a bad bacterial infection judging from the green and yellow tinged poop in the photo. The priority is to treat the bacterial infection first. I recommend that you purchase baytril which will most likely require a visit to the vet to get it. It will be dosed according to her weight, possibly injected. Until you get the powerful antibiotic, you want to get as much probiotics in her as possible to fight back bad bacteria and help balance out the good and bad bacteria in her gut. For now, feed her scrambled egg mixed with poultry nutri drench and buttermilk all mixed together. Your feed store should have the poultry nutri drench...add 3 drops to the mixture each time a new mixture is made. Once you get the baytril and if it's the liquid kind, add it to the mixture to feed your hen. Hopefully you'll be able to save her. Good luck.

Ok, thank you very much!
Ill get right to that and then update how shes doing.

Ok, I got the antibotics and I have her 3 cc's of the appropriate mix before I filled her water bowl with it...
I think shes worse this afternoon. All she wants to do is sleep in her milk crate, and every time I pet her she...falls asleep almost?

Hmmm...her coloring almost looks better. Did you try the water dropper with a tad of gatorade? Sometimes you have to drip liquid on top of the beak and get them drinking again. You can mash up a quarter of plain aspirin in the water. Hopefully, the antibiotics will start to kick in soon. Once she's drinking, see if she'd be interested in little bits of grapes, maybe a little soft catfood with an egg yolk. Overall she looks good. How are her poops? Alot of TLC and little face rubs can go a long way.

If you don't have gatorade, you can try a pinch or two of cherry jello powder or something like that. It's amazing how much more they can feel like drinking with a touch of flavor. The good thing about the gatorade is it has the electrolytes or if you happen to have that powdered electrolyte/vitamin stuff you can add some of that. Any fresh melon or something else soft and yummy that might tempt?

Poor girl...I sure hope she recovers. I'm not going to advise you on any medications because you've been given lots of (conflicting) info. already. Molting can really knock a hen on her butt. I have a girl now (looks MUCH worse than your girl ragged-wise) who's actually been staggering sideways sometimes - I think it's partly due to the discomfort of all the quills coming through. However, if I offer her treats, she's on them like a duck on a june bug. So the not eating thing worries me about your girl. I sure hope she pulls out of this okay...I know what it's like to worry about them

Hang in there.

That is one sick chicken. Remember, antibiotics take a bit to kick in so she might not look better to the 3rd or 4th day of the series. Once she turns the corner, she should pick up fast.

Hope that's what it is and you've pinpointed it.
