I need some help. One of my new peeps had a hard journey yesterday. She (I think) can eat and drink. It can sand when I put her on her feet. She keeps her blance for a while and even trys to take a step or two then falls and is unable to get back up....She made it from 11 pm to 4 am laying until I picked her back up.

I've seen pictures here on BYC of folks that have sat their peeps in small coffee mugs to help keep them upright until they get their land legs. Care would need to be taken that they are fed and watered regularly until they get their balance/strength/whatever. I would imagine also that they would need to be taken out of the cups regularly for pooping, cleaning, exercise...

Best wishes,
Ed

Her legs do not spread she just tips over. She has movement in her legs but not controled. She was laying stuck in the bottom of the shipper box yesterday. We thought she was dead so not sure what the extent of her injuries were. (FYI I posted on the "Emergency" page....nothing yet other than your coffee cup...She is doing great in it.) Thank you. mb

Ok, it doesn't really sound like spraddle/splay-legged to me. Could be a physical injury, possible head injury or a leg injury. Keep the food and water available to her and keep her clean the best that you can (paper towels in the bottom of the cup will help with keeping things clean and will also give the chick some non-slippery footing. Time will tell.

Best wishes and God bless,

Paper towel is in.....I just took her out of the cup so she could drink. She drank standing on her own three times in a row then tip right in. Clean and dried again.

I'm sorry about the weak chick! Have you tried giving her some vitamins (poly-vi-sol without iron), maybe some plain yogurt/chick starter slurry? I had a weak chick that had some problems standing as well, fed her the vitamins, slurry and added some apple cider vinegar to their water and in a day or so she had perked right up!

Good luck!!
