Weak/Sick baby

Maybe if you cant sneak her in with the others maybe you can sneak one of the others out and put it in the brooder with the chick. The so much NEED company! Good luck!

I went out to the broody hen today and couldn't find the chicks -- I swear I heard it peeping under her last night. She still has a lot of eggs under her, unhatched... I guess I'll have to wait and see. I don't want to put little turkey chick with her until i'm sure she "won't be able to identify him as different". Maybe the evening is good because then she won't see him.

I lost her

I checked on her about an hour ago and she seemed unchanged. But I just went in to check again and she is gone. Poor little thing. It really breaks my heart. I wonder if she snuggled with the others and ended up getting suffocated? I guess it doesn't matter. She was so tiny and frail.

Thanks for all the good wishes and encouragement. I've still got 24 to worry about......

sounds like the same quandry we are dealing wth, two weaker chicks.. i read around, someone sugested teh pro-vi -sol baby vitamins>> one drop for the chicks and mix a little in their water... i hope they perk up..
i keep moving mine to teh water dish and dippign their beaks in it...one goes by herself now but the other still needs encouragement..both have fairly weak legs..

I hope yours will make it. Mine was just so tiny and fragile, right from the beginning. She really tried, but I guess she just couldn't do it.

Thanks for the kind words chickenannie and Julie. I have one other that I'm concerned about. The rest seem very alert and rambunctious so far. We'll see..... I just had no idea how attached I would become to these little feather butts so quickly! Especially the sick ones because I spend so much more time with them. I hope the rest make it

Best of luck,

I'm sorry you lost her. You did a great job caring for her though.

For what its worth, and anyone else in this situation in the future, we had a good ICU when we had a sick chick: I found a clear plastic storage bin, like 12" square, and we put it inside the larger brooder (a big rubbermaid storage bin) with a cookie rack on top. That way the chick, and her buddy, who were in the ICU could see the others but none could hop out or in. They still wanted to be out on the other side, but I think it was easier than being behind a solid wall......

I am so sorry to hear Penny that you lost her!! You took such good care of her and you did the best you could!

I know it is frustrating, but we can all say that you gave more than 100% to keep her alive and at least she died peacefully in a nice warm and safe environment that you provided her. Good luck with the rest of your babies and keep us posted on how they are doing!
