We wear cowboy hats here guess where?
so to start things off i have never had this issue when raising chicks with my grams (when the heat lamps went off they stayed off and the chicks where OK). I'm going to be hopefully (

) hatching out ducklings this next week lock down is next Tuesday and I'm having some issues with the younger chicks (3weeks old this week) in the brooder. every time i turn off the heat lamp they are OK for the first 2-4 hours then they start up the "panic" peep as my grams would call it after that i turn it back on and they are OK again but whats going on their are 12 chicks in the brooder so it shouldn't be a heat problem and it has been in the mid 80es-90 all this week, why are they causing such a fuss? I only have one heat lamp and i need to disinfect it and start my temp checks for the new brooder for the ducklings how do i make them stop freaking out?

the two chicks from the teacher in Dallas...well the first one that caught my attention was the little blue\Grey sneezing chick (i have never seen a chick sneeze before) and one yellow chick that was acting lethargic picking it up and looking at it i found out it had the tip of it's beak facing up and and the bottom half facing down. So when it closed it's mouth the tip of the beak wasn't closed all the way. After calling i got a grim reminder of just how "country" my grams was. When i asked her about the chicks and she promptly told me to kill them both and bury them

so can the chicks be saved or do my dogs get treats tonight?

For the chicks who freak out when the lamp goes off, is that their only source of light? If not then it is kinda normal for them to chirp because they are slowly getting used to the lamp going off. When I would turn off the lamp for mine they would chirp like crazy but eventually go about their merry way and continue to explore, eat, drink, etc. I feel like when I turned the lamp off they became more active. With all that heat all they wanna do is sleep. Chicks don't really like change, but hey they have to learn even if that means showing them some tough love. For the sneezing chick, it might be a little dusty in the brooder or the type of shavings you use? This is only if she is totally fine otherwise like normal stool, eating, running around healthily, etc. If she look sick and sneezing then you should post in the emergency section. The chick with the deformed beak is fine if she is eating and drinking well. If she stops because of her beak then you may have to cull her. I have seen grown chickens with beak deformities that ate and drank fine. As long as they are happy healthy birds that do everything the same as the others, I see no problem
