I've got a small flock of 5 isa-brown/red sex link (couple came from rspca so who knows what they are).

I also have a larger flock that's moved in of australian native bush turkeys.

I'm feeding premium mash and the turkeys may I say, not only love it but look very healthy. That said they are a protected species and I cannot eat them, get eggs from them or cull them so I do not wish to make the chook feed too attractive to them.

I also don't want to make my chooks unhappy. Is there a pain free method of moving from (expensive) mash to (inexpensive) pellets or should I just bite the bullet and let them go cold turkey (so to speak ;-)

thanks muchly

I switch mine to pellets without any transition. They didn't touch it the first day. On the second they were eating the same as they did the crumble.

I usually just switch over. Typically there's a day with both mixed in the feeder.

Pellets get a mixed 'review' from group to group. Some will start gobbling them up right away. Some act like the pellets can't possibly be food for a day. In that case, I leave them with only the pellets....as Opa said, on the 2nd day they'll start eating them.

There's an old saying...."Hunger makes the best sauce."
