My wife and I are looking to get a weather proof feeder for our chickens. We have a large run and a coop inside the run.
We are tired of making mistakes and not thinking things through.
We are looking for something that will keep their food free from water and poop.
We understand the only place chickens don’t poop is, nowhere. That being said, we just don’t want them to poop in their food. We have no problem cleaning off a container, just trying to keep the girls healthy and clean.

I use rent-a-coop port feeders. They come in different sizes and can be hung on fencing (hardwire cloth too) or screwed to a board. They have an overhang to keep water out. But, if you're handy, you can buy the port accessories and make your own port feeder with a bucket.

Is your run covered?

😜
I think I have tried every feeder style ever designed, as have most of the others on the forum I would hazard a guess.
I bought a treadle feeder this year and, so far, I’m really pleased with it.
Rat, weather and poo proof the only thing not to like is the price 😫
After many months I have figured out an easy way of cleaning it which was a bit of a sod.
So …
1.Big open dish 0/10 neither poop nor water proof
2.Hanging rat proof feeder -5/10 don’t get me started on why this was a disaster
3.Bell shaped feeder 3/10 poop proof but most food went to rats and mice who undoubtedly would give 10/10
4.Omlet cube feeder 1/10 that is that I only found one mouse at a time inside the feeder in the mornings. Easy to clean though 🤷‍♀️
5.Treadle feeder 9/10 so far (ask me again in 2 years 😉)
Hope his helps

I built this due to rain blowing in and causing clogs. Very little waste. I wish I had added a lower lip which would have really eliminated waste but overall I’m happy. I bought everything at Lowes and did it myself. I’ve since added a S hook so I can easily remove the bucket and fill it at my feed storage area.

That's genious. I may have to borrow that idea - on my 7th type of feeder, they're stacking up all over the place.

I made a "feed shed."

I have a roofed run, but rain can blow in. The feed is in open bowls, so this is its only protection.

I put the bowl on a brick in a plastic container. The container keeps their dirt scratchings out of the bowl. I have their water bowl in here too, up on a cinder block. That keeps the water clean as well.

We bought these ports and hole saw on Amazon. We used only two of them for a 5-gallon bucket in the one breeding pen just to try it out. It works great! The only bad thing about 5-gallon buckets is the lids are nearly impossible for me to get off. So, I just make hubby do it. :)

I'd shop around though as I saw the price! When we bought the kit, it was some promotion and was less than half that price.

Get the screw on lids from lowes etc
Has a threaded ring that fits bucket permanently then the screw on lids threads into the ring and has rubber seal to keep water out.
Easy Peasy

None of those port feeders are rat proof which is what the OP was asking about. Some flocks get away with just a feeder but once the rodents find you, game over.

Edit: My bad, there was another thread asking about rat proof feeders. This thread indeed was just about weather proof feeders.

My bucket feeder is ratproof if hung high enough.
