Re: Barred Rocks
Check the headspots to see if they're big and splotchy or more defined and smaller in general. The huge and/splotchy headspots are usually boys, but also check the legs. Most of the time, the girls will have darker fronts on their legs.

Good hatch!

They look wonderful! I just checked on them, and theres one over at the waterer just drinking away like its the best stuff on earth. Way too cute, great job!

Whew... I'm just glad none have feathered legs or Naked Necks

Lisa, if i was looking for feathered legs or naked necks, then I think we're good...LOL

Cyn, thanks for the info!

And, just an update on that last BO - she's still hanging in there - still very weak, but at least she's moving some. Time will tell...

The incubation phase of Chick-N-Cam was interesting and exciting, but now that there are little chicks running around I find it even more entertaining. I've always wondered how the baby chicks really act when they don't think the humans are watching them.

I got to see a big hand come down and scoop up one of the baby chicks. I bet that chick got some cuddling time.

They are so cute running around one moment, then stopping suddenly, a few seconds later all are asleep. The sleeping and eating cycle happens over and over again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

The really big hand is my DH, who 'doesn't really like my chickens'....but seems to spend more time back here talking to them than I do...

The other big hand is me

The little hand is usually 11 yr old Katie.

We just braced that one chick's leg - he was just a tad spraddled leg.

And, if you didn't get the other thread update, the last BO did not make it, unfortunately.

BUT the others are doing really great. I love the way the run around with such PURPOSE - like "hmm...I think I'll go over there...NOW!! REALLY FAST...now I'm here. OK. Nap time."

Sorry, you lost the last BO chick.

They are all precious and I know it is difficult to lose one.

Yes, I love the sense of purpose little chicks have. It's like they are wind up toys that run at high speed for a bit, then they completely and quickly shut down for a rest. Then they are awake and at full speed again, then asleep. It's as good or better than anything on cable television these days.
