Weeder ducks

my beautiful wife has been talking about weeder ducks off and on for year. Pretty much as long as I have been talking about getting runners. We have our runners so we are thinking of one more breed of duck. We have Pekins and Fawn and white indian runners. So now are looking for real life experience from owners of weeder ducks. Any and all thoughts welcomed.

ive never heard of weeder ducks. i know there is no such breed.
most ducks eat bugs not weeds.
if you want something for weeds you need geese

I've always heard of weeder geese, not ducks. Ducks like to make holes and divets.

well we had found a site , a hatchery even I think that listed them. But maybe it was runners called weeder ducks like in this link.

I knew I wasn't halucinating (sp) when I read of weeder ducks. They are on pages 94 and 95 of this book. Now if only I had this book.....

in my research I found that Mucovies are considered excellent weeders. I've often thought of adding 2 geese to our flock. I think the ones I like are called American buff? I'd have to look it up.

I love Buff geese very pretty and suppose to be a calm breed. There ya go next after geese a few Muscovies

our French white scovy drake grazes with the geese. The Am Buffs are a very nice goose, lovely coloring, graze well, and dont fuss at the muscovy when they are around or vise verse.

I have a runner duck and some Welsh Harlequin ducks and they all graze as well as chase bugs around. They prefer the bugs, but they graze unti lthey find something to chase. Nothing like my Pilgrim Geese, though. We they range over about two acres and we haven't had to mow in over three weeks.
